ABOUT THE TEAM

The Current Haverhill Rovers Under 13 Girls Football Team have been together for the past 3 years. Initially the team began playing with 7 aside teams in the Cambridgeshire Girls Football League. The home ground is situated at Samuel Ward Upper School and matches are played most Saturday Mornings. Training currently takes place on Thursday evenings on the astro pitch at the Haverhill Leisure Centre throughout the autumn and winter, and then during the summer months moves up to the grass pitches of Samuel Ward Upper School.

This season they moved up to 9 aside teams. This has also included an increase in pitch and goal size and the introduction of the offside rule. After a shaky start this season losing their first game, the girls have shown real character and responded well by winning their last two matches scoring a total of 11 goals. This recent good form giving the girls increased confidence and taking them to second within their league, a position that they are keen to improve on. Following on from this season the girls will progress up to full 11 aside teams.

With the growing awareness and popularity of ladies football the team is going from strength to strength both on and off the pitch. Not only is the club providing the girls with instruction and developing their footballing skills, it also provides the basis for teamwork, leadership skills and confidence. These are life skills that can be used in other areas and not just football.

Several members of the team have also been selected to train at the Player Development Centre (PDC) based in Bury St Edmunds. Where the girls routinely play representing Ipswich Town FC against teams from Norwich City, Colchester United and Cambridge City. Success within the PDC can lead on to the Academy at Ipswich town Football club.
